Rev. Fr. George S. Varughese (Shabu Achen)
Father George S. Varughese, a beacon of faith and compassion, leads St. Mary’s Malankara Orthodox Church in Calgary with unwavering dedication. Hailing from Kerala, India, he brings a rich spiritual heritage to his role. In addition to guiding parishioners through Holy Qurbana and festivals, Father George spearheads various community organizations, including Prayer Meetings, MMVS, OCYM, MGOCSM, and AMOS.
His leadership extends beyond spiritual matters; he works tirelessly with the construction committee, raising funds and securing approvals for church projects. Notably, he initiated the SMOC Summer Fun Fair, fostering fellowship and fundraising efforts. Amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Father George ensured the continuity of spiritual services, leveraging online platforms to reach parishioners.
His commitment to service, coupled with his innovative initiatives, embodies the essence of Orthodox values and enriches the lives of all who know him. Through his guidance, St. Mary’s continues to thrive as a vibrant community of faith, united in love and devotion.
