The Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement (MGOCSM) is the student wing of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. To unite high school and college aged students to deepen their spiritual life and embrace fellowship, the Syrian Student Conference was created in 1907, later assuming the name MGOCSM in 1960.
Here at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Calgary, our MGOCSM is a dynamic youth movement firmly anchored under the motto of Worship – Service – Study. We equip our youth to be responsible citizens as well as missionaries of Christ, and to cultivate a spirit of service to the church and society at large, through our activities. Our MGOCSM conducts monthly prayer meetings to nurture our students’ faith through personal and group prayer, reading the Bible, and singing devotional songs. Guest speakers are often invited to share their experiences and offer wisdom and guidance to the students. Other times, the students organize fellowship outings to connect with each other, their church community.

MGOCSM also contributes to our community by organizing food, clothing, and bottle drives, as well as volunteering at homeless shelters, toy drives, and community events for holiday celebrations. These acts are to give back to our community, raise money for church activities, and instill positive virtues in our youth. Members of our MGOCSM put their God-given talents to good use by participating in newsletters, magazines, and calendars that we curate. Most recently, senior MGOCSM members took a leading role in organizing OVBS 2025, running general sessions, songs, and games for all to enjoy. MGOCSM is a pivotal stepping stone in a young Christian’s life, where they act as role models for younger children while learning to be young adults themselves. It is a formative spiritual organization that impacts a young person’s relationship with their faith, and how they choose to pursue that faith into adulthood. This is why MGOCSM Calgary abides by the motto Worship – Service – Study to support and strengthen the spiritual journeys of our members
