A Legacy Rooted in Tradition
The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church traces its origins to the Apostle St. Thomas, who brought the Christian faith to India in A.D. 52. Today, it stands as a vibrant branch of the Oriental Orthodox family, upholding centuries of rich liturgical tradition and spiritual heritage.
Mission & Vision
Our mission is to uphold Orthodox Christian worship, nurture faith, and build a welcoming spiritual home for Malankara Orthodox families in Calgary. As we continue to grow, our vision is to strengthen our community in Christ and, by God’s grace, establish a permanent place of worship that will serve generations to come.
Our Journey in Calgary
Our parish story is one of faith, perseverance, and growth:
Early Beginnings
What began as humble home gatherings for prayer and Holy Qurbana laid the foundation for our parish today.
Parish Establishment
On December 21, 2002 (St. Thomas Day), our congregation was formally established as a parish under the Diocese of Southwest America—led by the Late Rev. Fr. Lazarus and blessed by leaders from Edmonton and other local Christian communities.
Growth & Stewardship
From an initial strength of about 10 families, our parish has grown to over 100 families today, reflecting the grace of God and the spiritual vitality of our community.
Faith and hope are two solid companions to lead and guide us through life and its many trials.
